After a month of order-taking, Sime Darby Auto Performance today officially launched the all-new locally assembled third generation Porsche Cayenne, which is priced from RM599,999.
The new locally assembled Cayenne launches in Malaysia with an enhanced standard equipment package including Adaptive Cruise Control, Soft-close doors and the Sport Chrono Package.
Elevated standard equipment levels from the previous locally assembled Cayenne are also retained; for example, the 14-way electric comfort seats with memory package, Porsche crests embossed on the front seat headrests, four-zone climate control and electric roll-up sun blinds for the rear windows remain standard on the new locally assembled Cayenne.
As similar as it looks with the outgoing version, the list of enhancements is actually quite long both on the exterior as well as the interior. For instance, both the front and rear-ends of the Cayenne have been redesigned with new features like LED Matrix headlights, new bumpers, a new bonnet, a new 3D taillight, and a repositioned rear number plate housing. The wheel design is also new.
Inside the cabin, highlights include a new 12.6-inch curved display instrument panel, a new multifunction sports steering with paddle-shifters and a mode switch, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, a new air-cond control panel, a new and repositioned gear lever, and a new engine start button.
While the functions that the driver uses frequently are located directly on or immediately next to the steering wheel, the automatic transmission selector lever is now on the dashboard. This makes room for the new centre console for storage compartments and a large air conditioning controller in an elegant black panel design.
Porsche has also introduced an air quality system in the new Cayenne. As standard, the vehicle uses predictive navigation data to detect approaching tunnel entrances and automatically activates air recirculation.
Powering the new locally assembled Cayenne is a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 353 PS from 5,300 to 6,400 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 1,340 to 5,300 rpm. Compared to its predecessor, the new version here makes 13 PS and 50 Nm more.
Paired to the engine is an eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox with a variable AWD system. Thanks to the powertrain and the Sport Chrono Package, the Cayenne goes from 0 to 100 in 5.7 seconds, and hits a top speed of 248 km/h.
Wheel options such as the 21-inch Cayenne Exclusive Design wheels and 22-inch Sport Design wheels are also available as options, alongside the new and lifestyle-oriented Tequipment accessories such as Rear Seat Entertainment.
Last but not least, three exterior colours are available including Chromite Black Metallic, Carrara White Metallic and Quarzite Grey Metallic, with black or black and red leather interiors to choose from. According to Porsche, deliveries are expected to take place by the end of the year.
