WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd (WTCA), the official distributor for GAC vehicles in Malaysia, has reached another major milestone with the start of mass production for its second locally assembled (CKD) model—the GAC EMKOO. Assembly takes place at the facility in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur.
This latest achievement highlights the strengthening collaboration between WTCA and GAC International. It follows the successful local assembly of the GAC GS3 EMZOOM last year and represents continued momentum in local manufacturing and technology sharing efforts between the two companies.
The start-of-production (SOP) event was officiated by WTCA Chief Executive Officer Mr. Tan Keng Meng and GAC International Vice General Manager Mr. Ye Shao Jian. Joining them for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting were key representatives from both organisations, including Ms. Yap Yoke Moi and Mr. Loh Ling Howe, Chief Operating Officers of Business Operation and Commercial, respectively, from WTCA; along with Mr. Li JianLu, Director of Technical Center, and Ms. Carrie Liu, KD Project Manager from GAC Group.

“We are pleased to move forward in our CKD journey with the commencement of EMKOO production,” said Mr. Tan. “This marks our ability to deliver vehicles that meet global quality benchmarks while being locally assembled. The EMKOO embodies our shared commitment to offering cutting-edge and stylish vehicles to Malaysian customers with efficiency and precision.”
Mr. Ye added, “The successful start of EMKOO production in Malaysia showcases the strong alignment between GAC and WTCA. With its bold styling, advanced safety systems, and robust performance, the EMKOO is poised to raise the bar in Malaysia’s SUV landscape. This project underscores GAC’s long-term strategy to deepen local integration and grow alongside our Malaysian partners.”
Scheduled for an official launch in the third quarter of 2025, the GAC EMKOO promises to introduce a bold, intelligent design philosophy to the local mid-size SUV market. With two CKD models now in production, WTCA continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Malaysia’s localisation efforts while delivering innovation and premium quality to consumers.
