Volvo EX30 Black Edition Debuts in the UK with Stealthy New Look

Volvo EX30 Black Edition

Volvo has unveiled the Black Edition variant of the all-electric Volvo EX30, introducing a more dramatic and visually striking take on the compact premium SUV.

The special edition brings a series of design-focused enhancements while retaining the strong performance, technology and range that have made the EX30 a popular choice in the battery-electric segment.

The Black Edition styling is immediately recognisable through its extensive use of high-gloss black exterior elements. These include the distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, front grille strikethrough, Iron Mark, rear Volvo script and model designation.

The theme continues with colour-coordinated door mirror caps and a matching roof spoiler, giving the EX30 a more assertive and cohesive appearance.

This edition is offered in a single exterior finish, Onyx Black, paired with an exclusive Indigo interior. The metallic paint delivers a subtle sparkle under daylight, while appearing more understated in low-light conditions.

Inside, the cabin adopts a sporty deep-blue theme with studio-inspired textiles and upcycled denim trim, a material choice that reflects Volvo’s ongoing emphasis on sustainability.

In the UK, the EX30 Black Edition is available across both Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor Performance powertrains, and in Plus and Ultra trim levels. Pricing starts from £40,060 for the Single Motor Plus variant.

As with the standard model, the Black Edition benefits from a comprehensive suite of advanced safety and driver-assistance systems. Its sensing platform comprises up to five radars, five cameras and twelve ultrasonic sensors that continuously monitor the car’s surroundings. Key convenience and support features include adaptive cruise control and a powered tailgate.

The Single Motor Extended Range version offers a driving range of up to 295.2 miles (WLTP combined) and completes the 0–62 mph sprint in 5.3 seconds. A heat pump is fitted as standard to optimise energy efficiency and maximise real-world driving distance between charges.

Inside, the minimalist cabin is centred around a 12.3-inch touchscreen that integrates infotainment and vehicle functions. The Black Edition also features Volvo’s air-quality measurement system with remote cabin pre-cleaning, along with a full suite of driver-support technologies.

The EX30 Black Edition follows earlier Black Edition treatments introduced on models such as the Volvo XC60, and is now part of a wider portfolio that also includes the Volvo XC90, Volvo XC40, Volvo EX40 and Volvo EC40.

In terms of market performance, the EX30 proved to be a strong seller in the UK, finishing 2025 as the country’s tenth best-selling battery-electric vehicle. The addition of the Black Edition is expected to further boost its appeal thanks to its more distinctive visual identity.

This Black Edition variant is currently offered exclusively for the UK market and is not slated for sale in Malaysia.
