Volvo Car Malaysia has introduced a new single-motor variant of the EC40, the brand’s first electric-only crossover SUV, priced at RM248,888. This makes it RM40,000 more affordable than the existing twin-motor version.
The EC40 single motor is offered in the Ultra trim and is powered by Volvo’s in-house developed second-generation permanent magnet rear electric motor, producing 175 kW (238 hp). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
Power comes from a 70 kWh battery that delivers up to 488 km of range on the WLTP cycle and supports fast DC charging from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes.
A new Sand Dune exterior colour has been added, inspired by Sweden’s west coast, joining existing shades of Aurora Silver, Onyx Black, and Crystal White. Inside, the EC40 features a leather-free cabin with Charcoal Connect suede textile and Charcoal Microtech materials. The interior also gains updated décor with Cutting Edge accents for a more modern look.
The new model year EC40 adopts Volvo’s latest user interface first seen in the EX30. The system reduces the number of taps required for common functions and improves the overall experience across the 9-inch Google built-in centre display and 12.3-inch driver’s display.
Chris Tan, Sales Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, said the single-motor option was introduced to meet strong customer demand and broaden the appeal of the EC40.
Design highlights of the EC40 remain its higher ride stance for visibility, large wheels with sculpted arches, and a sleek roofline with distinctive taillights. Safety is covered by Volvo’s Safe Space Technology suite, which includes collision-avoidance systems, advanced driver assistance features, and a reinforced body structure.
For a limited time, customers of the single-motor EC40 will receive complimentary first-year insurance worth RM5,600 and a wallbox charger voucher worth RM5,000.
