smart Malaysia has officially pulled the covers off its largest and most advanced model to date, the all-new smart #5. Bigger, bolder, and more rugged than the urban-centric #1 and #3, this new D-segment electric SUV marks a major step forward for the brand as it pushes into a more premium and versatile territory.

From the first glance, the smart #5 looks nothing like its siblings. Measuring 4,705 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,705 mm in height, and supported by a long 2,900 mm wheelbase, it commands attention with strong proportions and a tough, squared-off silhouette.

Frameless doors, short overhangs, two-tone mirrors, and distinctive “floating” wheels give it a modern edge, while cleverly hidden design easter eggs add a playful touch to the otherwise robust styling.

Whether in its standard form or dressed up as a Brabus performance model, the #5 projects a premium, adventure-ready personality built for both city life and long escapades.

For Malaysia, the smart #5 lineup will consist of three variants:
smart #5 Premium (RWD) – RM199,800
Stepping up unlocks a larger 100 kWh NMC battery built on an 800 V architecture, pushing range figures up to an impressive 590 km. Power rises slightly to 363 PS, but the real highlight is its ultra-fast charging capability: 400–450 kW DC charging slashes 10–80% charging time to just 15 minutes, while 22 kW AC charging comes standard.

smart #5 Brabus (AWD) – RM249,800
The headline act arrives with dual motors producing a massive 646 PS and 710 Nm. This all-wheel-drive powerhouse demolishes the 0–100 km/h run in only 3.8 seconds, making it one of the quickest electric SUVs in its class. It retains the same 100 kWh battery with a claimed 540 km range despite the huge performance boost.

Inside, the smart #5 continues its high-tech theme with a cockpit dominated by screens: a 13-inch AMOLED central display, a 10.3-inch digital cluster, a passenger-side display, and a huge 25.6-inch AR head-up display.

These operate on an AMD V2000 chipset with Unreal Engine-powered graphics, running the latest Smart OS that introduces a ChatGPT-based voice assistant named Leo. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and OTA updates are built in across the range.

Entertainment is equally immersive, courtesy of a 20-speaker Sennheiser 3D audio system with Dolby Atmos support. Luxury amenities include ventilated and heated front seats, heated rear seats, 256-colour ambient lighting, and oak-wood trim. There’s even a “Comfort Mode” that transforms the seats into a spacious recliner-style bed — ideal for rest stops or charging breaks.

Practicality also gets plenty of attention. The #5 offers up to 1,530 litres of boot space, a useful 72-litre frunk, and 34 strategically placed storage compartments. A panoramic glass roof adds to the sense of airiness, while off-road modes such as Sand, Snow, Mud, and Rock reinforce its go-anywhere spirit.

The SUV also supports 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing owners to power appliances during outdoor activities.

Safety is another key focus, with Level 2+ autonomous driving functions powered by Nvidia OrinX processors. Features include adaptive cruise control, automated lane changes, intelligent parking systems, and a reinforced body structure for enhanced crash protection.

With its combination of size, technology, performance, and premium features, the smart #5 is poised to become one of the most compelling new EV SUVs in Malaysia. When it officially launches, it will go head-to-head with established rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X, BYD Sealion 7, and XPeng G6 — and early impressions suggest it’s more than ready for the challenge.
