Mercedes-AMG has raised the bar in the world of high-performance luxury roadsters by launching the SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE—the most powerful SL in the model’s storied history.
Fusing hybrid innovation with AMG’s signature performance DNA, the SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE brings supercar speed, cutting-edge technology, and everyday usability into one breathtaking package.
At the heart of the SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE is AMG’s proven 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine, paired with a 150 kW electric motor integrated into the rear axle. Together, they produce a combined output of 816 hp and 1,420 Nm of torque, catapulting the roadster from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and onward to a top speed of 317 km/h.
This plug-in hybrid is the fifth model to incorporate AMG E PERFORMANCE technology, which merges track-inspired electrification with everyday driving versatility. The electric motor operates through a two-speed gearbox and features a mechanical limited-slip differential—all engineered for direct power delivery, particularly during acceleration or overtaking.
The SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE benefits from battery technology inspired by the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1™ team. Its 6.1 kWh high-performance battery is designed not for long electric-only range, but for fast energy delivery and optimal performance. With direct cell cooling, the battery maintains its ideal operating temperature, maximizing both performance and durability.
Despite its focus on performance, the system allows for up to 13 km of pure electric driving, perfect for quiet departures or short city runs. Charging is handled via a 3.7 kW onboard AC charger, compatible with standard wallboxes or household sockets.
Performance isn’t limited to the powertrain. The SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE features AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL with active roll stabilization and rear-axle steering, ensuring an ideal blend of agility and composure at all speeds. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels for improved maneuverability; at higher speeds, they turn in the same direction for enhanced stability.
AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes—ranging from “Electric” to “Race”—allow drivers to tailor the vehicle’s characteristics to their preference. Each mode fine-tunes parameters like throttle response, suspension damping, steering feel, and even the exhaust note. Drivers can also choose from four levels of regenerative braking, enabling “one-pedal” driving and efficient energy recovery.
