OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has officially launched the JAECOO J8, a new flagship SUV positioned as the brand’s most premium and capable model to date.
Unveiled exactly one year after the debut of the J7, the J8 marks a step forward in the brand’s focus on off-road capability and accessible luxury. According to the company, over 17,000 units have been sold in Malaysia to date.
The JAECOO J8 measures 4,820 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,710 mm tall, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase. Exterior highlights include a Waterfall grille, hidden door handles, and 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
Powertrain and Performance
The SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 245hp and 385 Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The J8 is available in both front-wheel drive (2WD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.
The 2WD variant accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, while the AWD takes 9.0 seconds. Top speed is 200 km/h for both. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.8L/100km (2WD) and 8.1L/100km (AWD), according to WLTP standards.
The AWD variant features an intelligent all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring and Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension.
Interior and Features
The AWD version comes with a six-seat layout (2+2+2), while the 2WD variant seats five. Boot space starts at 200 litres (with the third row up) and extends to 2,021 litres (2WD) with the second row folded flat.
Inside, the J8 includes dual 12.3-inch displays, a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a 50W cooled wireless phone charger. The AWD model adds a power-adjustable Queen’s front passenger seat and heated, ventilated, and massaging seats for the first and second rows.
Other features include a microfiber headliner, 256-colour ambient lighting, built-in fragrance dispenser, NFC keyless entry, and an integrated digital video recorder.
Audio systems differ by variant, with a 12-speaker Sony setup for the 2WD and a 14-speaker version with headrest speakers in the AWD.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Both variants are equipped with Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Driver Monitoring System (DMS)
- Lane Change Assist (LCA)
- Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
- Forward Distance Monitoring (FDM)
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
- Event Data Recorder (EDR)
The AWD variant also includes fully automated parking. A OneBox brake-by-wire system supports the vehicle’s dynamic control and safety functions.
Local Assembly and Pricing
The JAECOO J8 is locally assembled at Chery’s manufacturing facility in Shah Alam. The 2WD variant is priced from RM178,800, while the AWD starts from RM198,800.
