OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has officially launched the JAECOO J5, a new compact B-segment crossover aimed at buyers seeking a more premium alternative in the class.
Priced from RM108,000 (on-the-road, without insurance), the J5 arrives with a strong focus on safety technology, cabin comfort and driving refinement, positioning itself as the brand’s entry point into the compact SUV space. However, if you buy it before the end of March, you can have the J5 for RM102,000 thanks to the early bird promotion.
Under the bonnet, the JAECOO J5 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 147 PS and 210 Nm of torque. The engine features an integrated intake intercooling system and an integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head, technologies aimed at improving thermal efficiency and drivability.
Power is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT), prioritising smooth acceleration and everyday usability. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.4 litres per 100 km on the Malaysia Driving Cycle (MDC), qualifying the J5 for Malaysia’s Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) certification.
The J5 measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, placing it firmly within the B-segment SUV category while maintaining a relatively wide stance.
Its body structure incorporates extensive use of high-tensile steel to improve crash protection, while torsional rigidity is rated at 23,500 Nm/deg. The chassis uses a MacPherson strut front suspension paired with a multi-link rear suspension — an uncommon setup in the segment — designed to enhance ride comfort and stability.
The SUV rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels wrapped in 235/55 R18 tyres.
Inside, the J5 features a five-seat cabin trimmed in leatherette upholstery with white seat piping. Front seats are ventilated, while cargo capacity stands at 480 litres, expanding to 1,284 litres with the rear seats folded.
The cabin also incorporates double-glazed front windows to reduce road and wind noise, improving overall refinement.
A standout feature is the built-in in-car mixer with app control, allowing the vehicle to function as a karaoke lounge when paired with a wireless microphone.
The interior is also designed with pet owners in mind, using TÜV-certified upholstery that is antibacterial and scratch-resistant.
Above, a panoramic moonroof measuring 1.45 square metres — claimed to be among the largest in the segment — helps create a more open cabin environment.
Technology is centred around a 13.2-inch 2K infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, paired with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and an eight-speaker audio system. A ventilated 50W wireless charging pad is also included on the centre console.
Safety is another key highlight. The J5 comes equipped with a Level 2+ advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite with 19 functions as standard.
Key features include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane keeping assist, traffic jam assist, rear cross-traffic braking and emergency lane keeping assist, among others.
A 540-degree HD surround-view camera system also helps improve visibility during parking and low-speed manoeuvres.
Launch incentives and warranty
The JAECOO J5 is priced from RM108,000 (on-the-road without insurance).
To mark the launch, OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia is offering a limited Special Launch Package available from 5 to 15 March 2026. Early customers will receive a RM3,000 “Duit Raya” rebate and can choose between a complimentary first-year insurance package or an additional RM3,000 cash rebate.
Buyers will also receive a J5 Accessories Trio Package worth RM2,000, consisting of a subwoofer, a wireless karaoke microphone and a multi-functional flashlight.
All JAECOO J5 models are covered by a seven-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty.
Alongside the launch, the company handed over the first five JAECOO J5 units to Malaysian customers. Deliveries are expected to ramp up as the company works with its nationwide dealer network to fulfil existing bookings.
