Priced at RM269,800 on the road without insurance, the GWM WEY G9 has officially been launched in Malaysia, marking a key milestone as the first Chinese new energy premium MPV to be locally assembled in the country.
The model will also be produced for export to Thailand, Indonesia, and other ASEAN markets, reinforcing Malaysia’s growing role as a regional hub for electrified vehicle manufacturing.
To mark its market introduction, the first 1,000 customers will receive a RM3,000 cash rebate, together with a complimentary 15.6-inch rear entertainment display and a free wallbox charger. All WEY G9 owners are covered by a six-year vehicle warranty with unlimited mileage, alongside an eight-year or 160,000 km warranty for the hybrid system.
The launch of the WEY G9 further strengthens GWM’s presence in Malaysia, complementing an existing product line-up that includes the HAVAL H6 HEV, the rugged TANK 300 and TANK 500 HEV SUVs, and the ORA electric range comprising the Good Cat and Ora 07.
Powering the WEY G9 is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a dual-motor plug-in hybrid system, delivering a combined output of 442 PS and 642 Nm of torque.
Power is channelled through a four-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) to an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system, ensuring confident traction and stability across varying road conditions. Drivers can choose between EV Mode, EV Priority Mode, and Smart Hybrid Mode, allowing the vehicle to adapt to different driving needs.
Despite its size, the WEY G9 delivers strong performance, accelerating from 0–100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 200 km/h. Its 44.2 kWh battery enables an electric-only driving range of up to 170 km (NEDC), while total driving range extends to approximately 1,000 km.
Charging options include DC fast charging, which replenishes the battery from 30–80% in 26 minutes, while a full charge using 6.6 kW AC charging takes around 6.5 hours. Fuel efficiency is rated at 1.2L/100 km (NEDC), increasing to 6.2L/100 km when operating at a low state of charge, positioning the WEY G9 among the most efficient large MPVs in its segment.

The model’s name reflects this philosophy, with “G” symbolising generational connection, “9” representing completeness and family unity, and “WEY” honouring founder Jack Wey and the brand’s commitment to premium quality, innovation, and safety.
Engineered with safety as a core focus, the WEY G9 has achieved a five-star C-NCAP safety rating. Its protective structure incorporates 81.96% high-strength steel with up to 2,000 MPa reinforcement, full-length side curtain airbags covering all three rows, a reinforced chassis with four longitudinal and seven cross members, and a multi-layer battery protection system that has undergone 89 safety and durability tests, including extensive waterproofing measures.
