GGR Motor’s ambition to become Malaysia’s first homegrown electric motorcycle (EV) manufacturer has received strong backing from the Federal Territory Road Transport Department (JPJ).
A delegation of 25 JPJ officials, led by Deputy Director Eric Jusiang, visited the GGR Legacy (M) Sdn Bhd plant in Kampung Sungai Penchala last Thursday.
The working visit aimed to give the authorities first-hand exposure to the EV motorcycle assembly process while reviewing GGR Motor’s operations as the country’s pioneering local electric motorcycle producer.
According to GGR Motor Managing Director, Muhammad Mussaddiq Mohamed Azmi, the visit marks an important milestone in ensuring that EV motorcycle production in Malaysia meets established regulations and quality standards.

“This is the first time the authorities have visited our plant. We hope this collaboration will help streamline standard operating procedures (SOPs) for EV motorcycle production in compliance with the law.
“We are truly honoured that JPJ Federal Territory officials took the time to tour our facility. It serves as recognition of our efforts in advancing electric motorcycle development in Malaysia,” he said.
The delegation was received by GGR Motor Chairman, Tengku Syarif Temenggong Perlis, Datuk Seri Diraja Syed Amir Abidin Jamalullail, together with Mussaddiq.
During the visit, the officers were briefed on the company’s operations and observed the assembly and production process of EV motorcycles. They also toured the accessory sales building, service workshop, and other operational facilities designed to support the growing EV ecosystem.
Mussaddiq also announced that registration for GGR Motor’s first model, the Lion G1, can now be carried out officially through JPJ’s system, effective 1 September.
“We expect customer deliveries to begin soon. With more than 6,000 bookings already secured, we are preparing to hand over the motorcycles to their owners in the near future,” he added.
The Lion G1 is GGR Motor’s debut model, developed through local research and tailored to the Malaysian market with a focus on affordability and sustainability.
The Sungai Penchala plant, operated by GGR Legacy (M) Sdn Bhd, was established with the goal of positioning Malaysia as a regional hub for electric motorcycle production within ASEAN.

Government policies and incentives for the EV industry continue to create opportunities for local manufacturers like GGR Motor to strengthen their presence in the market.
At the official launch of the Lion G1 in mid-July, the company set a production target of up to 30,000 EV motorcycles by the end of 2025, in line with growing demand for electric mobility in Malaysia.
The overwhelming response to the Lion G1, which received more than 2,500 orders within a week of its launch, demonstrates Malaysians’ increasing acceptance of EVs as a practical mobility option.
“This demand proves that locally produced electric motorcycles can compete by offering high quality at an affordable price,” said Mussaddiq.
To meet rising demand, GGR Motor plans to build a new assembly plant in northern Peninsular Malaysia on a site of more than one acre. The facility will serve as the main production hub for the Lion G1 and future models.
The expansion is expected to create over 50 new jobs, particularly in green technology and electric mobility.
The initiative is also supported by strategic partnerships with PMH Motor, Bateriku.com, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), and Petronas Lubricants Marketing Malaysia (PLMM), covering areas such as technical training, maintenance, and supply chain development.
