Sime Motors, through Sime Darby Beyond Auto, has officially unveiled BYD Mansion Macalister in Penang, introducing what it describes as Malaysia’s first BYD heritage-concept showroom.
Located on the historic Jalan Macalister, the new showroom stands out for being housed in a restored century-old building that once served as a well-known commercial landmark in the local community.
Rather than replacing the property with a modern retail outlet, Sime Darby Beyond Auto has chosen to preserve its architectural character while transforming it into a contemporary space dedicated to electric mobility.
The result is a showroom that feels less like a conventional dealership and more like a boutique lifestyle destination, combining heritage design with the forward-looking identity of the BYD brand.
Set on a 26,994 sq ft parcel of land with around 9,000 sq ft of built-up space, BYD Mansion Macalister has been designed to deliver a more curated customer experience. Inside, the showroom features four display vehicles, presented in a gallery-like setting to create a more premium and relaxed atmosphere.
There are also lounge-style consultation spaces as well as a private delivery room for customers taking handover of their new vehicles.
Beyond the retail space, the new Penang outlet also functions as a full ownership hub. The site includes an on-site service centre equipped with five work bays, one alignment bay, and three service reception bays, allowing customers to handle both vehicle purchases and aftersales needs in a single location.
To support the growing number of EV users in Penang, the facility also comes with its own urban charging hub. This includes one 60kW DC fast charger and seven AC chargers, adding another convenient public charging point for electric vehicle owners in the area.
According to Sime Motors Managing Director Andrew Basham, BYD Mansion Macalister represents an important step in rethinking the automotive retail experience. He said the project not only preserves a notable piece of Penang’s architectural heritage, but also creates a meaningful space where customers can engage with the future of mobility.
BYD Malaysia Deputy General Manager Jacob Ma added that the opening reflects the brand’s continued commitment to growing its presence in ways that feel more connected to local communities. He also noted that the new showroom combines premium customer experience, innovation, and uniquely Malaysian cultural elements in one space.
The opening also marks another milestone in the partnership between Sime Darby Beyond Auto and BYD, which began in December 2022. Since then, the group has continued to expand its BYD network across Malaysia, with locations including Ara Damansara, TREC Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Tebrau.
Sime Darby Beyond Auto’s performance within the BYD dealer network has also drawn recognition. BYD Penang was recently named Best BYD Dealer in Malaysia for overall performance, while the group picked up 13 out of 27 awards at the latest BYD Dealer Conference & Awards Night.
With the launch of BYD Mansion Macalister, Sime Motors is not just adding another showroom to its portfolio. It is creating a distinctive EV destination in Penang, one that ties together heritage, customer experience, aftersales support, and the growing shift towards electric mobility.
