Toyota Motor Corporation has officially revealed the Land Cruiser FJ, the latest addition to its iconic Land Cruiser lineup. The new model is set to make its domestic debut in mid-2026, with a public unveiling scheduled at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 from October 30 to November 9.

First introduced in 1951 as the Toyota BJ, the Land Cruiser earned its reputation for toughness after becoming the first vehicle to reach the sixth station of Mount Fuji. Over seven decades later, the nameplate continues to embody Toyota’s commitment to reliability, durability, and go-anywhere performance, with over 12 million units sold in more than 190 countries and regions.

With the FJ, Toyota expands its Land Cruiser family to four distinct models — joining the flagship 300 Series, the heavy-duty 70 Series, and the recently introduced 250 Series. The new FJ aims to deliver “Freedom and Joy,” providing a more compact, customizable option for enthusiasts who value both practicality and adventure.

The Land Cruiser FJ features a boxy, squared-off silhouette inspired by the brand’s rugged heritage. Its rectangular body and chamfered edges create a strong, purposeful stance, while removable corner bumpers improve repairability and allow for personalization.

Inside, the FJ adopts a functional, horizontal cockpit layout designed for excellent visibility and intuitive control. A low-set instrument panel enhances the driver’s view on and off-road, while Toyota Safety Sense provides advanced driver assistance features such as the Pre-Collision System for added peace of mind.

Built on Toyota’s IMV platform, the FJ combines genuine off-road ability with agile handling. A shorter wheelbase — 270 mm less than the 250 Series — delivers a tight 5.5-meter turning radius, improving maneuverability in urban and rough conditions alike. Reinforced body bracing ensures stability and durability, maintaining the Land Cruiser’s legendary toughness.

Under the hood, the prototype is powered by a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE gasoline engine, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and part-time four-wheel drive system. It produces 163 PS and 246 Nm of torque, offering dependable performance for diverse terrains.

Toyota plans to offer a range of accessory and customization options, including MOLLE panels for outdoor gear and design cues that pay homage to classic Land Cruisers. Alongside the FJ, Toyota also showcased the Land Hopper, a compact electric personal mobility concept that can be stored in the FJ’s cargo area — allowing users to explore trails and remote paths beyond where the SUV can reach.
