The all-new JAECOO J5 EV has made its first public appearance in Malaysia, and while its fully electric powertrain is undoubtedly the headline, there’s another feature that’s grabbing attention – it has been designed with pet owners in mind.
Making its local debut at the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, the J5 EV becomes OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia’s first fully electric vehicle, while also introducing what could very well be Malaysia’s first pet-friendly EV.

Instead of opting for a conventional mall roadshow or automotive exhibition, OMODA | JAECOO chose the country’s largest cat-focused expo as the launchpad for its latest SUV, underlining the company’s intention to position the J5 EV as a lifestyle vehicle for young families, urban explorers and, of course, pet lovers.
According to OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia Vice President Chris Tan, the J5 EV represents a major milestone in the company’s electrification plans, while showcasing how future mobility can be both sustainable and practical for everyday life.

Unlike many EVs that focus solely on performance and technology, the JAECOO J5 EV has been packaged to suit households with active lifestyles.
Its spacious cabin offers ample room for passengers and pets alike, while the large boot, practical storage compartments and thoughtful interior layout make transporting pet carriers, grooming equipment, travel bags or camping gear significantly easier.
To further support outdoor adventures, the J5 EV is equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing owners to power electrical appliances directly from the vehicle—ideal for camping, picnics or even running pet-care equipment during outdoor activities.
Up to 402 km of Driving Range
Powering the JAECOO J5 EV is a front-mounted electric motor producing 155 kW (208 PS) and 288 Nm of torque.

Energy comes from a 58.9-kWh CATL Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a claimed WLTP-rated driving range of up to 402 km on a single charge.
When it’s time to recharge, DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes, making longer journeys considerably more convenient.
Standard Features
Inside, the J5 EV features a technology-rich interior centred around a 13.2-inch 2K touchscreen infotainment system.

Other highlights include:
- Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with 19 safety and driver assistance functions
- 540-degree HD Surround View Camera
- Active Grille Shutter technology to improve aerodynamic efficiency
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Double-glazed front side windows for improved cabin refinement
- Rear multi-link suspension
- Large 1.45-square-metre panoramic glass roof
Practicality
Practicality remains one of the J5 EV’s strongest selling points.

The SUV offers:
- 35-litre front trunk (frunk)
- 480-litre rear luggage compartment
- 35 storage spaces distributed throughout the cabin

Combined with its roomy interior, these features make the J5 EV equally suitable for family duties, road trips and pet-friendly adventures.
A Different Kind of EV Launch
OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia’s collaboration with Oh My Meow! Expo 2026 is believed to be the first of its kind by an automotive brand in Malaysia.
Rather than focusing purely on performance figures or charging speeds, the company is highlighting how an electric SUV can seamlessly fit into the lifestyles of pet owners and active families.

Visitors to the expo, which runs from 9 to 12 July 2026 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre (MVEC), can get an up-close look at the JAECOO J5 EV ahead of its official Malaysian launch, while taking part in various pet-friendly activities organised throughout the event.
While official Malaysian pricing has yet to be announced, the JAECOO J5 EV is shaping up to be one of the more interesting EV launches this year—not just because it’s the brand’s first battery-electric model, but because it’s also aiming to carve out a niche that few, if any, rivals have explored: an electric SUV designed with pet owners in mind.
