Hyundai Motor Malaysia has officially opened bookings for its first high-performance electric models in the country—the IONIQ 5 N and IONIQ 6 N—marking a decisive step into the performance EV space. Estimated prices start from RM450,000 for the IONIQ 5 N and RM460,000 for the IONIQ 6 N.

This isn’t just another EV launch. With the N division’s motorsport DNA baked in, both models signal Hyundai’s intent to challenge conventional expectations of electric performance—particularly the idea that EVs lack emotional engagement behind the wheel.

Hyundai N

The IONIQ 5 N leads the charge as the more extroverted, track-focused offering. Built on the familiar IONIQ 5 platform but extensively reworked, it produces up to 650PS and delivers a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 260 km/h.

Beyond raw numbers, the engineering focus lies in driver involvement—featuring a heavily revised chassis, N-specific suspension tuning, and software-driven enhancements designed to simulate the responsiveness and feedback of internal combustion performance cars. Despite its aggressive setup, it retains a usable WLTP range of up to 448km, keeping it viable as a daily driver.

If the 5 N is about outright aggression, the IONIQ 6 N takes a more refined, precision-led approach. Built on the aerodynamic sedan form of the IONIQ 6, it matches the 650PS output but edges ahead in acceleration, hitting 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds.

Top speed is rated at 257 km/h, while range improves to 487km (WLTP). The emphasis here is on stability and high-speed composure, aided by aerodynamic enhancements such as a swan neck rear spoiler, as well as bespoke hardware designed to sharpen handling accuracy.

Both models are underpinned by Hyundai N’s philosophy of delivering “corner rascal” agility, racetrack capability, and everyday usability in a single package. That translates into a driving experience that goes beyond straight-line speed—focusing instead on balance, control, and repeatable performance under demanding conditions.

Importantly, both the IONIQ 5 N and 6 N will be built-to-order for Malaysia, reinforcing their exclusivity while allowing Hyundai to better manage demand for what are expected to be niche, enthusiast-driven models. Early adopters will also receive Hyundai N merchandise packages valued at RM2,000.

With these two models, Hyundai isn’t just adding performance variants to its EV lineup—it’s effectively redefining what a performance car can be in an electrified era. For Malaysian buyers, the arrival of the IONIQ 5 N and 6 N introduces a new dimension to the premium EV landscape: one where speed, technology, and driver engagement are no longer mutually exclusive.
