GWM Malaysia has delivered the first locally assembled WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV to national icon Dato Sri Siti Nurhaliza, marking a symbolic step in the brand’s push into Malaysia’s growing new energy vehicle segment.

The handover took place at the GWM showroom in USJ, shortly after the luxury plug-in hybrid MPV made its Malaysian debut earlier this year at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre. During the launch, Siti Nurhaliza was also unveiled as the official brand ambassador for the model.

Priced at RM269,800, the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV enters the market as a premium electrified MPV designed to balance family practicality with executive-level comfort. According to GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer Roslan Abdullah, the handover represents both a milestone for the model and a signal of the company’s long-term commitment to the Malaysian market.

He noted that Siti Nurhaliza’s multi-generational appeal and refined public image align closely with the positioning of the WEY G9 — a vehicle aimed at buyers who expect luxury, advanced technology and electrified performance in a single package.

For Siti Nurhaliza, the vehicle reflects her current lifestyle needs. She described the WEY G9 as a natural fit for her daily routine, highlighting its spacious interior, comfort and calm driving experience. With frequent travel for performances, meetings and family commitments, she said the MPV’s quiet and relaxed driving character makes long journeys more enjoyable.

At the heart of the model is GWM’s Hi4 intelligent hybrid system, which combines electrified performance with improved efficiency for real-world driving conditions. The powertrain works alongside a three-row MPV layout designed to prioritise passenger comfort, making it suitable for both family transport and professional use.

Inside, the WEY G9 emphasises premium materials, advanced driver assistance features and a technology-focused cabin designed to simplify long-distance travel. The spacious configuration also positions it as an alternative to traditional luxury MPVs, particularly for buyers who want electrified power without sacrificing space or comfort.

Consumer interest has been strong since the vehicle’s launch. GWM Malaysia reported more than 800 bookings within the first week, an early indicator that the electrified MPV is gaining traction among Malaysian buyers.

The competitive pricing strategy has also played a role. At RM269,800, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV enters the premium MPV segment with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that offers both electric driving capability and long-distance flexibility.

The handover to Siti Nurhaliza — now both owner and ambassador — serves as a high-profile introduction for a model the brand hopes will become a key pillar of its new energy lineup in the country.
