Mazda, Honda, Tesla, MG Car Prices Drop in Malaysia

Car Price

In a move that reflects the increasingly competitive automotive landscape in Malaysia, numerous automotive brands including Mazda, Honda, Tesla, and MG have announced price adjustments across selected models, making their line-ups more attractive to local buyers.

The revisions come at a time when consumer demand is shifting in response to rising living costs, the push towards electrification, and aggressive strategies by rival carmakers.

Mazda

Mazda CX-80

For Mazda, the updated pricing covers several of its popular models, including the CX-5, CX-30, and Mazda3. The price reductions vary by variant, with cuts ranging between RM10,000 and RM20,000. For instance, the Mazda CX-5 2.0G Mid 2WD now starts from around RM134,469 after a RM10,000 reduction, while certain CX-8 trims are priced up to RM20,000 lower than before.

Mazda’s larger CX-80 PHEV also received a significant cut, dropping from RM331,610 to RM296,610 — a RM35,000 reduction. With these updates, Mazda now positions its offerings closer to entry-level segments while retaining the brand’s hallmark of premium Japanese craftsmanship.

The CX-5, long a favourite in Malaysia’s SUV market, now enters an even more competitive bracket, giving buyers greater value for money while maintaining the driving refinement and stylish appeal the brand is known for.

Honda

Honda Malaysia has also joined the price revision exercise, with models such as the City, Civic, and HR-V benefiting from the adjustments. The Honda City now comes with savings of up to RM6,000, depending on variant, while the hybrid RS version enjoys a RM4,000 reduction. The HR-V sees discounts as high as RM10,000, while the CR-V receives a flat RM8,000 cut across variants.

Meanwhile, the Civic, a mainstay in the C-segment sedan market, is priced up to RM5,000 lower than before, with the popular 1.5T RS petrol version receiving a RM4,000 drop. As one of the leading non-national car brands in the country, Honda’s move signals its intent to strengthen its position as a volume leader while ensuring accessibility for new buyers.

Tesla

Tesla, which has refreshed its Model 3 Highland lineup in Malaysia with the introduction of a new Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant, has also revised the model’s price across the range. Every variant is now more affordable than before, reflecting Tesla’s push to make its premium electric sedan more accessible.

Tesla Model 3

The updated prices are as follows:

  • Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive – RM169,000 (previously RM181,000, a RM12,000 reduction)
  • Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive – RM185,000 (new variant)
  • Model 3 Long Range All-Wheel Drive – RM199,000 (previously RM210,000, a RM11,000 reduction)
  • Model 3 Performance All-Wheel Drive – RM229,000 (previously RM242,000, a RM13,000 reduction)

This marks the second round of price adjustments for the standard RWD and Long Range RWD models. When the Model 3 Highland first launched in Malaysia in October 2023, the RWD carried a price tag of RM189,000, while the LR RWD was listed at RM218,000. Following the debut of the Performance variant in April 2024, prices were revised to RM181,000 and RM210,000 respectively.

Beyond the pricing updates, Tesla has also made several refinements to the lineup, including specification tweaks and performance enhancements. Notably, the Performance All-Wheel Drive variant now boasts an improved WLTP-rated range of 571 km — up from the previous 528 km — offering even greater efficiency and long-distance capability.

MG

Meanwhile, MG Motor Malaysia has taken a bold step by reducing prices for its MG4 electric hatchback by as much as RM28,000, effectively repositioning it as one of the most affordable full EVs in the country. The revised pricing now starts at RM100,888 for the Lux variant, RM128,888 for the Lux Extended, and RM138,888 for the range-topping XPower performance model.

MG4

This aggressive move aims to make EV ownership more accessible while reinforcing MG’s position as a serious contender in Malaysia’s expanding electric car market. By combining competitive pricing with the MG4’s rear-wheel-drive dynamics and practical design, MG is clearly targeting value-conscious buyers seeking a stylish and attainable entry into electric mobility.

These revisions highlight a broader trend in Malaysia’s automotive sector, where brands are increasingly sensitive to affordability and buyer sentiment. The entry of more Chinese carmakers offering advanced technology at competitive prices has also pressured established Japanese marques to rethink their strategies.

By lowering prices while maintaining quality and reliability, Mazda and Honda are not only defending their market share but also reaffirming their commitment to Malaysian customers.

Industry observers note that these price reductions could spark a ripple effect, encouraging other manufacturers to follow suit. With electrified vehicles also gaining traction, the competitive pricing of petrol and hybrid models remains essential to balancing buyer expectations and maintaining sales momentum.
