Ford Motor Company, together with its local distribution partner, Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC)today launched the new Ford Ranger – an even more capable pick-up with a freshened lineup that combines class-leading technology, safety and convenience features.
The new ‘Built Ford Tough’ Ranger builds on the capabilities and off-road credentials that perfectly complements, and enables a wide range of customers’ work and lifestyles.
The new Ranger lineup in Malaysia consists of nine different variants, including the XL, XLT, new XLT+ Wildtrak, and the much anticipated Ranger Raptor. The latter will be launched officially at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 this November.
“With the new advanced features and the new generation powertrain offering even greater capability, the new Ranger will build on its already strong and widening appeal in the market,” said Truong Kim Phong, managing director, Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company. “The new Ranger will help continue to revolutionise the pickup truck segment, and we are proud that so many customers are choosing Ford.”
“We know that Malaysian customers want their pickups to have the toughness of a truck as well as the comfort and advanced featuresof a passenger vehicle. We are confident that the new Ranger lineup will offer customers unmatched versatility, helping them achieve more, whether at work or with their family,”said Syed Ahmad Muzri Bin Syed Faiz, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto Connexion.
Advanced Powertrains for Proven Performance, Cutting-edge Technology
The new Ford Ranger offers a choice of three diesel powertrains to deliver greater versatility and to match consumer demands for a wider variety of requirements. These include the new generation 2.0L Single-Turbo and 2.0L Bi-Turbo engines, and the Ranger’s proven Duratorq 2.2L.
Ford’s new generation of diesel engines uses advanced materials and boasts sophisticated construction. Compact, lightweight, powerful and efficient, they feature common-rail direct fuel-injection, an integrated intake manifold, and a belt-in-oil primary drive.
Available exclusively on the Wildtrak 4×4 is the new-generation 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel engine, coupled with an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission to bring greater torque, improved flexibility and a quieter, more comfortable drive.
The 2.0L Bi-Turbo takes advantage of sequential turbocharging to deliver greater responsiveness, drivability and maximum efficiency. A pair of turbochargers are employed for maximum performance and efficiency. A variable geometry turbocharger is employed to deliver greater throttle response and eliminate lag by spooling up quickly at low speeds. The second unit is a fixed geometry turbocharger with a high flow capacity to deliver maximum power and performance.
With 500Nm from a low 1750rpm, the Bi-Turbo engine delivers a greater torque spread, with the 10-speed’s close ratios reducing gaps in power and acceleration to make steep, slippery hill-climbs much easier. The Wildtrak model optioned with the new engine maintains Ranger’s equal class-leading payload and 3500kg towing capability.
The 2.0L Single-Turbo engine, available on the Wildtrak 4×2 and new Ranger XLT+ variants, is also mated to Ford’s advanced 10-speed automatic transmission to deliver 180PS and an impressive 420Nm of torque.
The XL and XLT variants are equipped with Ranger’s proven 2.2L turbodiesel engine, which offers 160PS/385Nm and comes with a six-speed automatic and manual transmission.
Ford’s Pre-Collision Assist feature using Inter-Urban Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection is available on the new Ranger. The system is designed to detect pedestrians as well as vehicles to bring the Ranger to a complete stop to help mitigate potential rear-end collisions and road-traffic collisions with pedestrians. The system functions at speeds above 3.6km/h.
The First and only in-class Lane Departure Warning & Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning will carry over to the new Ranger. Ford’s segment-firstSemi-Automatic Parrallel Parking (SAPP) is available on the Wildtrak 4×4. The driver need only to apply the gear changes and brakes, and the system will automatically steer the Ranger into the parking space.
Loading is easier than ever on the Wildtrak and XLT+ models with the introduction of the first and only in-class, Easy Lift Tailgate. With a new internal mechanism, the Ranger’s tailgate is now lighter to lift, with a 70 percent reduction in initial force required to raise it for closing. Not only does this system require less effort to lift, it also means that it’s easier to lower.
The Ranger has added the light and nimble Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) to the entry level XL variant – making it the first-in-segment to offer this feature as standard across all models – and providing even more capability to these workhorse trucks that tackle the daily demands of construction sites and agricultural fields across the country.
Ranger’s Fresh Face
The new Ranger’s rugged good looks see styling changes that carry on the off-road stance and visual appeal of the current model. Lead by a cleaner new grille, which features the distinctive ‘nostrils’, the more distinctively chiselled lower bumper now offers a broader intake for a more balanced look. Ranger Wildtrak and XLT+ boast LED daytime running lights and HID headlights for better visibility. The Wildtrak variants will also come fitted with LED front fog lamps.
“A successful design should communicate its intent at-a-glance,” said Ford Asia-Pacific Director of Design, Todd Willing. “With Ranger’s reputation as an amazingly capable and versatile vehicle, it is our responsibility to create a design that clearly signals those attributes in combination with a handsome and appealing aesthetic.”
The Ranger is now equipped with keyless entry and push-start button on the XLT+ and Wildtrak. Its interior hosts an array of upgrades to help tackle the working week, the long weekend road trip, and the off-road adventure. With durable, tactile surface finishes ensuring a long lifespan, the spacious Ranger now sports a black themed interior. Contrasting detail elements including shadow chrome and silver accent stitching help give its interior a premium feel.
SYNC ® 3 on the Ranger XLT+ and Wildtrak is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and includes Bluetooth and an 8.0-inch full colour touchscreen. The Wildtrak is also equipped with in-built satellite navigation system for when the Ranger is beyond mobile coverage areas.
On-road Comfort, Off-road Conquered
The new Ranger’s suspension had been upgraded for improved control roll, to enhance the driving experience when fully-laden and when towing. The new packaging also enables geometry changes for an improved ride, a reduction in body roll as well as improved steering precision. The suspension changes do not impact on Ranger’s equal class-leading towing and payload capabilities.
“We’ve further improved how Ranger behaves when carrying a load, towing a boat or when taking a caravan around the country,” said John Willems, Chief Program Engineer, Ranger. “The Ranger is now better to drive when it’s working at its hardest. It is easier to handle, so you
can really make the most of its payload and towing capabilities. It helps reduce fatigue on long trips, too.”

Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC), the sole distributor of Ford in Malaysia, today revealed more details about the upcoming new Ford Ranger lineup.
The month-end launch will consist of the Ranger Wildtrak, XL and XLT, and will introduce Malaysia’s first Ford Performance vehicle range, the Ranger Raptor. The Raptor is expected to take centre stage at its nationwide launch at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 in November.
The new Ranger will feature a host of upgrades, including the first and only in-class new-generation 2.0L Bi-turbo diesel engine, coupled with an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission – available in both the Ranger Raptor and Wildtrak, while the 10-speed automatic transmission is available in the Ranger Raptor, Wildtrak and right down to the XLT+ variant.
These updates means that the new Ranger will have the smallest yet most powerful engine in the market for a pickup, with improved performance and fuel efficiency.
Staying true to its aspiration as a pickup for every lifestyle, the new Ranger comes fitted with more smart and innovative driver-assist technologies. These first and only in-class features include Semi-Automatic Parallel Parking (SAPP), ensuring hassle-free parking in narrow city streets, as well as an Autonomous Emergency Breaking (AEB) system, that detects pedestrians and vehicles before alerting the driver with an audible warning. If the driver fails to react, it can automatically apply the brakes and come to a full stop.
Loading and unloading work materials, weekend getaway luggage or even your mountain bike will be less of a chore with the first and only in-class Easy Lift Tailgate – incorporating a torsion bar to make lifting and lowering the tailgate effortless.
Other first and only in-class features in the new Ranger include Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Robert Bosch will launch an electric van-sharing service in Germany this year, expanding its reach in the field of pay-per-minute vehicle rental services and pitting it against some of its automaker clients.
The German supplier said it will team up with toom, a subsidiary of German retailer Rewe, to supply delivery vans at hardware stores, enabling clients to rent a van to transport bulky purchases. The van-sharing service will initially be offered at hardware stores in Berlin, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Troisdorf, and Freiburg
Quickly renting a car by app is something that nearly two million people already do in Germany alone, and the number of car-sharing users is on the rise. In this growth market, Bosch is launching a new sharing service for electric vans.
“Bosch is growing with digital services for urban mobility. A service for sharing electric vans has huge potential for growth,” says Dr. Rainer Kallenbach, president of the Connected Mobility Solutions division at Bosch. With more than 330 stores, toom is one of the top providers in the German home-improvement industry.
From December 2018, it will only take a few clicks for customers at five selected stores to directly book an electric van on site, and quickly and simply take stone slabs, balcony plants, and paint pots home with them. “As a company committed to sustainability, we are always eager to constantly improve our contribution to environmental protection. We’re therefore very pleased that we can now offer our customers an eco-friendly way of taking their purchases home,” says Wolfgang Vogt, toom’s managing director for finance and personnel.
Bosch is already well versed in the sharing services business, as demonstrated by Coup, its rental service for electric scooters. Since its launch in 2016, Coup has constantly expanded, and now has a fleet of 3,500 scooters in Berlin, Paris, and Madrid.
Last month Porsche unveiled their all new 935 during the “Rennsport Reunion” motorsport event at Laguna Seca Raceway in California. Featuring a body evoking the legendary Porsche 935/78, the 935 is a race car you would want to drive in the track. Nonetheless, it isn’t car you can just drive on the road from your garage to the track. After all, the 935 is a track-only race car and can’t be driven legally on the road.
So how will owners of the 935 get their race cars from their home to the track? The solution is here and has been solved using a sexy looking transporter, which happens to be large enough to accommodate more than one race car.
Created by Igor Shikitov, an automotive designer from Moscow, Russia, this “Volkswagen Renntransporter” is a just a concept for now and we are quite sure Volkswagen is working on it as Porsche is part of the Volkswagen Group.
UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. (UMWT) today introduced the All-new Toyota Rush, the second generation of the 7-seater SUV model developed especially for ASEAN markets. The All-new Toyota Rush has been on sale for some 10 years, with over 18,000 units sold throughout Malaysia. Engineered for robustness and designed for practicality, the All-new Toyota Rush has received regular updates to meet the changing needs of customers.
With the new second generation, the All-new Toyota Rush retains the image of an Urban SUV for Rugged-Active Lifestyles, combining the comfort of a passenger car with spaciousness, high seating position, and greater ground clearance of an SUV.
The All-new Toyota Rush also introduces 360-T, a new Toyota approach to provide the best package for customers that will be used in all its upcoming models. 360-T is all about Trust and Technology by Toyota, giving customers a complete suite of innovations, designed to protect and provide total advantage on the road.
Three elements make up the 360-T: Safe-T Plus with the latest safety features and systems as a standard feature; Connectivi-T which provides latest technology for connectivity, entertainment and safety; and Guaran-T for total peace of mind throughout the ownership of the vehicle.
The design of the All-new Toyota Rush is an indication of the dynamism that can be expected from upcoming Toyota models. Departing from the conventional form of the first generation, the styling has sharp character lines which give an advanced unique design that is known as ‘R-BLADE’. The ‘R’ stands for ‘Rush’ and the ‘blade’ refers to Metal, Sharp and Edge, while a dual tone theme on the bodywork adds visual impact.
The new image of the All-new Toyota Rush has also been elevated to be more advanced with a premium look and feel that comes with high value-added features, making it even better value for money.
The All-new Toyota Rush is powered by the latest Toyota 16-valve DOHC 1.5-litre engine which has a maximum output of 105 ps at 6,000 rpm with 136 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. With a proven and reliable 4-speed automatic transmission that comes with Automatic Stop-Start system, fuel consumption is better and can be as good as 15.6 kms per litre. This qualifies it as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) under the current Malaysian National Automotive Policy.
The All-new Toyota Rush continue with rear-wheel drive for a greater variety of terrain conditions, offering better traction for uphill climbs when carrying heavier loads.
Other features include Electric Power Steering (EPS) which contributes to the good fuel efficiency, and tyres with the largest diameter in its class. Despite the large tyre size, the All-new Toyota Rush still has an agile turning radius of 5.2 metres.
The seating layout is 2-3-2 over three rows, with easy access to the third row. The cargo capacity is 217 litres but when required, the volume can be expanded to 514 litres by folding the rear seats. Additionally, for those who may have long or large objects (not exceeding 50 kgs); the edges of the roof have integrated low profile rails which the cargo can be placed on.
The new DVD-AVX audio system has a large 6.8-inch capacitive touchscreen and the unit can be linked to a compatible smartphone to ‘mirror’ the smartphone’s screen onto the audio display. This allows GPS navigation apps such as Google Maps and Waze to be used and viewed from the display screen.
Other standard features include 13 cupholders, a Multi-Info Display, Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) for a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the vehicle, and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR). A Toyota AutoTag is also installed for electronic payment of toll while the Smart Entry system locks/unlocks the doors with just a touch of the button located on the outside door handles.
Toyota places top priority on safety and has developed many new Active Safety systems which can help the driver avoid accidents. The combination of advanced safety systems plus computer-aided engineering and design has enabled the All-new Toyota Rush to score the highest overall rating of 5-stars from ASEAN NCAP (for both Adult & Child Occupant Protection categories).
A new standard active safety feature is the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). BSM helps the driver to be more aware of other road-users in the vehicle’s blind spot, reducing the risk of a collision, while the RCTA is able to warn the driver of approaching vehicles as the vehicle is reversing out of a parking bay.
Also new is the Pre-Collision System (PCS) which helps to reduce low to medium speed accidents due to inattentive driving (only available on the Rush 1.5S). The system, which uses a stereo camera, has four features: Pre-collision Warning, Pre-collision Braking, Front Departure Alert, and Pedal Misoperation Control. The system is designed as a driver assistance feature but gives priority to driver inputs which will override its functions.
The All-new Toyota Rush comes with a 5-year full warranty with unlimited mileage. UMWT expects to sell around 3,600 units in 2019 and in anticipation of high demand, the new model will be assembled under contract at Perodua’s manufacturing plant. The estimated price of the All-new Toyota Rush is RM98,000 for the S variant and RM93,000 for the G variant. The model comes with 5 exterior colours choices – White, Silver Metallic, Dark Gray Metallic, Blue Metallic and Dark Green Metallic. Bookings for the two variants are accepted at all authorised Toyota showrooms nationwide from today.
Leading dairy company Arla has committed to converting its Swedish distribution operations to fossil fuel-free sources by 2020. To help the company make good on that promise, Scania has just delivered the first of 48 vehicles that rely on RME (rapeseed oil methyl-ester), which is a biofuel that generates 66 percent less carbon dioxide than diesel. The Swedish government is also lending a hand by keeping RME a tax-exempt fuel, making it more financially viable for Arla and other companies willing to make the conversion.
Arla expects the remainder of its Scania RME fleet to arrive in its various Sweden distribution centres throughout 2019 and 2020. In addition to RME, Arla also currently operates equipment that runs on hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) and ethanol. The European Union has called on member states to more aggressively move toward renewable energy, however, Arla’s planned conversion is significantly more rapid and ambitious. According to Berne Carlson, vehicle manager at Arla, “Thanks to Scania’s ability to deliver vehicles that can run on alternative fuels, we are happy to say that we will get there.”
As a leading engine and truck manufacturer, Scania has made researching and developing alternative fuel technologies a top priority. Currently, the firm offers vehicles and engines that are capable of running on a range of alternative fuels, including RME, liquefied gas (LNG), and ethanol. Fredrik Lundström, Fleet Sales Manager at Scania Sverige says, “While one type of fuel is not necessarily the solution for all, the conditions of each region, such as access and infrastructure, always influence what type of alternative fuel fits best. In this case, RME is the right fit and we’re delighted to help Arla in its efforts to become fossil free.”
This is a horsebox or horse transporter with a Volvo FH-460 6×2 chassis as the base. It sports a D13K 12.8-litre Euro 6 engine that offers 460 horsepower and 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission. It also comes with a 2-year warranty (depending on region).
UK based Wicks Group’s new Volvo FH-460 is designed for the comfort of horses, but it offers a host of features to keep the driver and passengers comfortable, as well, such as the Globetrotter XL Cab and two extra passenger seats. Wicks Group enlisted the services of Ware, Hertfordshire,-based Oakley Coachbuilders to add a Supremacy horsebox body to the chassis. It features three double beds, a shower, a kitchenette, and satellite TV.
This FH model joins an existing fleet of 20 vehicles from various manufacturers ranging in gross vehicle weight (GVW) from 18 to 44 tonnes. It will replace a previous 16-tonne, two-axle manual truck that had issues when switching between gears. With the new truck, Wicks Group will take advantage of the I-Shift Dual Clutch, which offers smoother acceleration and gear shifts, something that both human and horse passengers will appreciate.
The company’s entire current vehicle lineup on display at the recent Hannover show included some future-focused electric and hybrid truck models, which will be entering customer field tests this year and next.
“The overriding priority for any development is to provide value to our customers,” says Ron Borsboom, management board member at DAF. “Our approach has always been and will always be to thoroughly validate our new developments before launch. That customer-focused strategy continues with electric and hybrid trucks. Zero emissions and low noise levels may be demanded in the future as cities announce their intentions to create zero-emission zones which could drive a need for our customers to have a wide variety of solutions to meet their needs.”
DAF LF Electric
The 19-tonne DAF LF Electric Innovation Truck is equipped with a 340-peak horsepower electric motor and 222-kWh lithium-ion battery packs, which gives the vehicle a maximum operating range of 220 kilometres at full cargo capacity. The truck’s battery packs are modular, meaning customers can choose the best capacity for their specific needs. The model on display at IAA 2018 is well-suited for distribution work in cities.
DAF CF Electric
DAF’s CF Electric Innovation truck is a 4×2 tractor that supports a maximum gross combination weight (GCW) of 37 tonnes. It has a 325-peak horsepower electric motor and a 170-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that gives it a range of roughly 100 kilometres, which makes it a fit for distribution in urban environments. It also features VDL E-Power Technology. You can perform a quick battery charge in 30 minutes or fully charge the battery pack in around an hour and 30 minutes.
DAF CF Hybrid
The DAF CF Hybrid Innovation Truck is a hybrid in more ways than one, because it runs on diesel and electric power, and it can be used in-city or in long-haul operations. It sports a 10.8-litre PACCAR MX-11 engine that produces 450 horsepower, a ZF electric motor that produces 175 peak horsepower, and a ZF TraXon transmission. The CF Hybrid has a maximum electric range of 30 to 50 kilometres at various GCWs. You can charge the batteries with the diesel engine while driving on the highway or get a full charge in 30 minutes and an 80% charge in 20 minutes at a DC charging station. Braking and using Down Hill Speed Control and Predictive Cruise Control will recharge the batteries over time.
