The company’s entire current vehicle lineup on display at the recent Hannover show included some future-focused electric and hybrid truck models, which will be entering customer field tests this year and next.
“The overriding priority for any development is to provide value to our customers,” says Ron Borsboom, management board member at DAF. “Our approach has always been and will always be to thoroughly validate our new developments before launch. That customer-focused strategy continues with electric and hybrid trucks. Zero emissions and low noise levels may be demanded in the future as cities announce their intentions to create zero-emission zones which could drive a need for our customers to have a wide variety of solutions to meet their needs.”
DAF LF Electric
The 19-tonne DAF LF Electric Innovation Truck is equipped with a 340-peak horsepower electric motor and 222-kWh lithium-ion battery packs, which gives the vehicle a maximum operating range of 220 kilometres at full cargo capacity. The truck’s battery packs are modular, meaning customers can choose the best capacity for their specific needs. The model on display at IAA 2018 is well-suited for distribution work in cities.
DAF CF Electric
DAF’s CF Electric Innovation truck is a 4×2 tractor that supports a maximum gross combination weight (GCW) of 37 tonnes. It has a 325-peak horsepower electric motor and a 170-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that gives it a range of roughly 100 kilometres, which makes it a fit for distribution in urban environments. It also features VDL E-Power Technology. You can perform a quick battery charge in 30 minutes or fully charge the battery pack in around an hour and 30 minutes.
DAF CF Hybrid
The DAF CF Hybrid Innovation Truck is a hybrid in more ways than one, because it runs on diesel and electric power, and it can be used in-city or in long-haul operations. It sports a 10.8-litre PACCAR MX-11 engine that produces 450 horsepower, a ZF electric motor that produces 175 peak horsepower, and a ZF TraXon transmission. The CF Hybrid has a maximum electric range of 30 to 50 kilometres at various GCWs. You can charge the batteries with the diesel engine while driving on the highway or get a full charge in 30 minutes and an 80% charge in 20 minutes at a DC charging station. Braking and using Down Hill Speed Control and Predictive Cruise Control will recharge the batteries over time.

Tata Super Ace the preferred choice in 28 countries and now served by 24 outlets nationwide
“Malaysia is one of our key markets in South-east Asia and we are delighted with the overwhelming response to our recently launched Tata Super Ace and the Ultra range of light trucks by DHCV. The Tata Super Ace is a proven performer that can be customised for various applications delivering sustained value to customers”, he added
Meanwhile, Rohime says the Super Ace will benefit the companies. “Tata Super Ace is fitted with a 1405 cc diesel turbo charged engine that gives more power with better fuel efficiency as well as tough and durable build, engineered to support heavier loads and ensures long-term saving, making it a perfect last mile transport solution”, he said.

Designed to help small business owners take their businesses to the next level, the Tata Super Ace light truck offers many things.
First and foremost, the Super Ace is designed to be economical in urban use, and is marketed as an ideal product for last-mile cargo transport solutions, meeting the requirements of intra and inter-city transport.
It is powered by a Euro 2 compliant 1.4L diesel engine capable of producing 70 PS at 4,500 rpm, and 135 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm which is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
While most light duty commercial vehicles in this class are powered by petrol engines, the Tata Super Ace comes with a diesel engine which means that it is not only more powerful, but also more economical and more durable.
Complementing the durable, powerful, and economical engine is the convenience the Super Ace has to offer. For instance, the 5.1m turning radius provides easy manoeuvrability in congested traffic conditions making it ideal for a host of urban applications including food truck operators to squeeze it through the tightest of spaces.
Those who have something else besides a food truck in mind need not worry, as different canopy options and ladder carrying racks are available to suit your business needs.
On top of all of the above, the one-ton payload capacity and the spaciousness of the load bed, make the Super Ace an ideal choice to be used as a mobile shop. Plus, the comfortable cabin also makes it an enjoyable drive.
So, if you’re looking for a light commercial vehicle for less than RM50,000 with generous warranty program, a durable and powerful diesel engine, a spacious cargo area, as well as a comfortable cabin, the Tata Super Ace ticks all the boxes, proving itself to be a worthy contender in the light truck segment.

Scania Malaysia has delivered 17 new trucks to one-stop solutions provider Gateway Shipping Sdn. Bhd., which is expanding its business operations and strengthening its haulage and trucking services with additional Scania prime movers.
Held at the Gateway Shipping Depot in Gebeng, Kuantan, the mock key was presented by Scania Southeast Asia Services Director Thor Brenden to Gateway Group of Companies Executive Chairman, Dato’ Shaharuddin bin Shamsudin and Gateway Group of Companies Managing Director, Encik Rishinsa Yusoff.
Dato’ Shaharuddin cited performance, reliability, fuel economy and safety of the vehicles, along with excellent after sales service as some of the reasons why Scania was the ideal choice for transportation of the company’s bonded and non-bonded cargo.
“Being in the logistics industry, it is crucial that we provide good end-to-end service to our customers including their supply chains. Scania has enabled us to do so, as well as achieve total operating economy since our first purchase in 2015. As testament, we have been able to maintain good track record with our customers over the years,” said Dato’ Shaharuddin.
Gateway Shipping – one of the leading logistics providers in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia – acquired the Scania G410LA6x2MSZ trucks that can help the company attain best profitability for long-haul operations through powerful performance and increased fuel savings.
Drivers are able to stay more focused and alert on their journey with Scania Opticruise. This gear-change feature promises better comfort and fuel economy while reducing clutch and synchromesh wear, as well as a fully-adjustable steering wheel.
The acquisition of these new trucks were financed by Scania Credit Malaysia, the Scania Group’s financial provider that strives to provide its customers tailored and sustainable financial packages which best suit their business needs. In addition, the new trucks were purchased with insurance solutions offered by Scania Credit Malaysia to help minimise their financial loss and handle damages while optimising uptime.
Gateway Shipping’s purchase comes with the standard package of two-year free Scania Maintenance; two-year free 24/7 Scania Assistance and a ten-year free Control 5 Fleet Management System (FMS) that digitally enables them to monitor the performance of its drivers as frequent as every five minutes via real time updates that it provides.
In addition, Encik Rishinsa signed a two-year Maintenance Contract with Scania for five of its new trucks (480,000km each) covering scheduled maintenance of the vehicles and breakdown assistance.
“For Scania, today’s handover is a reflection of the Company’s on-going commitment to the quality, safety and performance of our vehicles and we are indeed very happy that Gateway Shipping has once again placed their trust in Scania for the best profitability and sustainability of their business,” said Brenden.
Volvo Trucks is now presenting a new transport solution consisting of autonomous electric commercial vehicles that can contribute to more efficient, safer and cleaner transportation.
The long-term goal is to offer companies that need continuous transport services between fixed hubs a complement to today’s offerings.
Volvo Trucks’ future transport solution is intended to be used for regular and repetitive tasks characterised by relatively short distances, large volumes of goods and high delivery precision. Transports between logistic hubs are typical examples, but additional use cases can also be applicable.
“Our system can be seen as an extension of the advanced logistics solutions that many industries already apply today. Since we use autonomous vehicles with no exhaust emissions and low noise, their operation can take place at any time of day or night. The solution utilises existing road infrastructure and load carriers, making it easier to recoup costs and allowing for integration with existing operations,” explains Mikael Karlsson, Vice President Autonomous Solutions.
The operation is handled by autonomous electric vehicles linked to a cloud service and a transport control centre. The vehicles are equipped with sophisticated systems for autonomous driving. They are designed to locate their current position to within centimetres, monitor in detail and analyse what is happening with other road users, and then respond with high accuracy.
The transport control centre continuously monitors the progress of the transport and keeps an accurate watch of each vehicle’s position, the batteries’ charge, load content, service requirements and a number of other parameters. As with an industrial production process, speed and progress are tailored to avoid unnecessary waiting and to increase delivery precision. In this way it will be possible to minimise waste in the form of buffer stocks, and increase availability. Vehicles that operate on the same route cooperate to create optimal flow.
In the near future, Volvo Trucks’ transport solution will be further developed together with selected customers in prioritized applications.
